Richtree Markets: I still like the coffee but the breakfast is bad

I’ve got blog notes at home that include yummies that I’ve made in the last few days (stay tuned for cupcake notes and my quick chickpea salad).

My review of Richtree Market (College Park) and their fruit-topped French Toast:

I didn’t want to eat my oats for breakfast this morning and went to Richtree. They have a good menu and I love their coffee, which is brewed by the cup and one can get cheaply with a muffin each day. After leaving the omelet station queue because of its size, I went to the Belgian waffle/French toast station. Wanting the less costly splurge I chose the French toast with fresh fruit topping. French toast without fruit would have been the cheapest option of the four (waffles and French toast, plain w/ syrup or with fruit). Waffles would have been the best option. It wasn’t good.

First there was bad service. Upon arriving at the food station to order I waited while one nearby guy did lunch prep and the girl on coffee stayed there with no customers. She finally came over… to begin waffles for no customer (I later learned that they were for her and a co-worker) and when I gave my order to her she called over another colleague to make it. Fine, I understand that it wasn’t her station but could she have started it? Could the other guy have? Finally my order began being made. I noticed that the chalkboard menu says “Fresh fruit topping” yet noticed that it appeared to have come from a bag. It didn’t occur to me that it would still be frozen when I got it.

I got 2 slices of bread, which seemed promising. Then I got it up to my office and dug in. Indeed, the fruit was cold in the middle, making the French toast cold. Then I noticed that some of the French toast was raw in the middle (raw egg mixture = potential health hazard) and the fruit tasted like plastic from the take out container (another potential health hazard – what chemicals are being transferred to my food?).

It’s a reminder that if I want French toast I should make it at home and bring it to work, as I did one day last week with leftover challah. The french toast that I made was so much better than Richtree’s. What a waste of money. I intend to  email their customer service department.

The service and food were great when Movenpick was in charge. It’s all deteriorated. I’ll post the email that I send them after I do so, as well as any response that I receive.

EDIT: Their response is here.
