Simply Divas is back, Sunday, April 29th 2012 – 1:00 – 5:00p.m. at The Great Hall.
This is what I said after last year’s event:
I loved the idea of a Sunday afternoon fundraiser. I’ve been to so many events over the years and this was one of the best. When I was blogging about the event beforehand I was going on what I’d been told and read. No description can do this event justice. At $50, it’s pretty affordable as far as fundraising events go. Next year you all must go. Hopefully the weather will be just as beautiful as it was yesterday.
Now in its seventh year, Simply Divas is a fundraising benefit for FAME, a community-based organization supporting the families and caregivers of individuals suffering from a mental illness.
The benefit showcases stellar talent in an unforgettable stage show, serves lots of delicious food and drinks and features a silent auction, a swag bag and other fun activities. (more…)
Total Health Show, April 20-22, Metro Toronto Convention Centre North Building.
Total Health 2012 Canada’s premier national health show, will celebrate 35 years of striving to make a difference in the world, bringing cutting edge knowledge to the public by the leading innovators in the natural health field.
Speakers will focus on creating good health and preventing disease using natural methods: good nutrition, living foods, herbs, natural supplements, diverse healing modalities, energy medicine, organic gardening, traditional farming, agricultural biodiversity, healthy homes, ecologically based communities, renewable energy source and preserving a healthy environment for our children. We as consumers must choose foods and medicines which do no harm to people, animals or our planet.
I go to the show every year for the exhibit floor. This year my aunt Hyla Cass will be one of the featured presenters on the main stage, as well as leading a workshop and sitting on a panel. I love it when family members who live elsewhere (in this case, Pacific Palisades near Los Angeles) comes to visit. On her website’s home page the screen shot and link that appears under “Featured Videos” is from an appearance that she did on Breakfast Television in Toronto last May. Her visits “home” are opportunities to share her message.
Here’s what the Total Health Show website says about Hyla:
Hyla Cass, MD is a physician, psychiatrist and frequently quoted expert in the field of integrative medicine, women’s health, and psychiatry. She combines the best of leading-edge natural medicine with modern science in her clinical practice, writings and lectures. She appears regularly as an expert in the field, on radio, TV (including The Dr. Oz Show, The View, & E! Entertainment), and in various local and national publications including the Huffington Post. Workshop: Women, Mood & Hormones
$30
Friday 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM, 206
Are you stressed, depressed, and PMS’d? Are you suffering from hot flashes and night sweats? Do you feel like you’re losing your mind? Depression, anxiety, and insomnia occur more often in women than men, and are conventionally treated with medications, especially antidepressants. However, from a biochemical standpoint, these conditions are most often related to imbalances in hormones, brain chemicals, and the nutrients that act as partners or co-factors in their production. With a good history and appropriate laboratory testing, you can uncover the underlying cause, and correct it with the appropriate use of supplements (herbs, vitamins, minerals, amino acids) and even, bio-identical hormones.PANEL: Natural Living: Healing Yourself with Living Foods & Natural Supplements
Saturday 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM, 206
Dr. Hyla Cass and Patrick Holford present the Orthomolecular method of achieving Total Health, originally pioneered by Dr. Linus Pauling and Abram Hoffer, one of the most effective treatment for physical, emotional and mental problems. Markus Rothkranz and Cherie Soria present the living food path toward Total Health. Raw, living foods contain all the enzymes and nutrients required for a reversal from disease to perfect healing.Nutrients for Mental and Emotional Health
Sunday 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM, 205
Tired? Stressed? Depressed? Frustrated with your doctors? Do you want to have more energy, less stress, and better health? Dr. Cass will teach you how to take charge of your own health, energy, and well-being. Rather than relying on caffeine, sugar, alcohol and other unhealthy products, you will discover why we crave these, and how to stay healthy, happy, and energetic naturally– and far more effectively. A psychiatrist practicing integrative medicine, Dr Cass will explain how anxiety, depression, addiction and other mental and emotional symptoms are related to imbalances in brain and body chemistry. She will tell you how you can take specific nutritional supplements, validated by research, that successfully address the root of the problem, with minimal if any side effects, minimizing or even eliminating the use of psychotropic medications.
Also sign up for Hyla’s newsletter and receive a FREE ebook, Reclaim Your Brain ($20 value) to find out how to enhance mind, mood, energy, & memory, and overcome addiction, naturally. Get it here.
Other Total Health Show speakers that I’m particularly interested in: Local nutritionist Julie Daniluk, Alissa Hamilton, author of the book Squeezed: What You Don’t Know About Orange Juice; Alan Cassels and Shiv Chopra. See a complete list of speakers here. What usually happens is that I walk in with intentions to catch speaker presentations and stick to the exhibit floor.
